Rustic Elegance

January 10, 2009 at 4:01 am (Uncategorized)

yfyufRustic elegance will be the underlying theme on our wedding day.  In this blog, I am supposed to chose one word to describe the feeling at our wedding, but I can’t.  I had to chose two because Lance and I are so different, our wedding will be incorporating us both.

I guess the underlying theme or feeling I want people to get when they arrive at our wedding, is the feeling of Lance & I.  The wedding, and reception is a celebration of our love for eachother, so I want the atmosphere to be representitive of that.

How are we going to do that? …Well first of all lets start with the setting…  Loon Mountain.  Now we are not huge skiiers or Snowboarders, but have dabbled lol.  But Lance loves the Mountains, loves to hike, loves to repell, loves outdoors.  So getting married at the summit of Loon Mountain over looking the presidentials, a no brainer.  Its gorgeous.  sightttWe also both love the fall, and October is our favorite month. So our wedding date is set for Oct. 2009

Next the recepetion.  Heres where we have to get really creative.  Lance wanting rustic, comfortable, and me wanting fancy and elegant.  I also think its very important to appeal to the five senses.

Our reception is at the Mountain Club on Loon.  They just went through a 7 million dollar renovation, and I love the rooms.  They have a spa YAY, and lots of activitys for everyone to do if they decide to stay longer then just for the wedding.

After our ceromony at the summit, our guests will take the gondola back down the mountain and head inside to the Black Diamond Grill.  Which is a pub like atmosphere, for cocktail hour, while the imeadiate families and wedding party get whisked away for pictures.  Once cocktail hour is over the guests will move to the Seasons Resteraunt.  This is the resteraunt in the mountain club at loon, where the reception will take place.

This is where I want the senses to come into play.  I’d like the smell to be of cinnomin and apples, or mulled cider.  (those are my favorite smells!) I’d liek the tables to have candles, and the ambiance be very romantic. There needs to be tons of texture, which is how we are going to get rustic, and elegant to blend.  I am not going to give away any specifics, but I am planning on including antlers, burlap, crystals, and satin. WHAT?  You will have to wait and see.

Our cake, I would like it to encorperate the outdoors, and also represent Lance, & I and our son Jack.  Who will be our ring bearer AWWWW.  I am thinking something with Birch trees.  I have a pretty good idea of what I want, but again I don’t want to give everything away! .I also will probably change my mind 348972398472 times before the actual wedding anyways.

The colors you will see, well I would like to have chocolate brown, and vintage gold.  I might add another accent color, but I am not sure.  Any suggestions? ..I also don’t know what kind of flowers we will carry during the ceremony, but I will not be using flowers in my center peices.

My dress, my dress, my dress.  I havent picked one yet but I intend to very soon!  I can tell you that it is not going to be puffy.  I am thinking slim A-line, or maybe trumpet or fit and flare kind of look.  It wont be white, but probably cream, or ivory.  It wont be simple, but its not going to be over the top.

We are having a sit down dinner, and I know that chicken will be on the menu because it is all I eat :) .  I want the flavors to be representative of NH, and the fall.  There will be more then one choice of entrees but I am letting Lance decide those because all I care about is the chicken!!!

As for favors, I am having a hard time deciding what we want to do.  One thought was to give away a nip and recipe for our signiture cocktail, if we have one.  Another idea was rusic candles.  But what I am thinking now might be a donation.  There is a website that you can order truffles from, and they donate a portion of the price for the truffle to a charity of your choice.  Then they personalize them for you.

http://www.trufflesforacause.com/  I just thought that this might be a cute idea.  As for a cause, I was thinking we could donate to Heifer International.  It is a non-profit organization that in general want to end world hunger, and care for the earth.   They beleive that a holistic approach is neccisary to build sustainable communities.  http://www.heifer.org/ Check them out! ..It is one of my Dads favorite charities to donate too.   So if we decide to go with this option our guests get some yummy chocolate, and hopefully a good feeling knowing part of there favor was a donation.

After the reception I don’t know if there will be an after party.  I am sure a lot of people will be staying at the resort, so if this is the case there could be.  I guess we will figure this as well as brunch out when the date approaches.

Last but not least,  I want people to walk away happy, satisfied, full, and smiling.  As I said in a prior blog, I want people to feel like we gave them a peice of us.  I really hope that through all of our effort of incorperating ourselves into this that they will.
